About The Coastal Watch Chapter, NSDAR
The Coastal Watch Chapter, NSDAR, was named for those who kept a careful eye on the New Jersey coastline as they watched for British ships during the Revolution. Patriots on the coast sent word of British advancement and movement to the Continental Army. The Patriots also launched their own small ships, whaleboats, and sloops to hinder the British invasions and raid their supplies. When the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, then called the New York Lighthouse, was occupied by the British, the Patriots attacked it several times.
The Coastal Watch, NSDAR, became the 47th New Jersey chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on its 125th anniversary.
